The Mathsman tutoring
Experienced private tutor, inspiring confidence and independent learning in Maths and Chemistry, empowering students to reach their full potential.
From visual learners to students who prefer a theoretical approach, my tutoring style is tailored to your learning style. Together, we can unlock the tools you need to become confident independent learners in advanced mathematics. I design my lessons to ensure you have all the skills to tackle any mathematical challenge and move forward in STEM.
Preparing for exams can be stressful. My tuition aims to alleviate worries about ill-preparedness and instead help students feel confident about reaching their exam goals. From getting a firm grasp of the curriculum to knowing how to approach a paper, I provide them with the tools to achieve their potential.
Classroom style teaching does not suit everyone. It can also have consequences on understanding more complex concepts. That’s where personalised tutoring can step in, ensuring you can learn in a style that suits you and excel in A-Level Maths.
Moving to the next stage in education can be an intimidating step. I’m here to help A-Level learners become confident in their skills and find ways to approach new challenges as potential future STEM undergraduates.
Chris tutored my son throughout his second year of A-Level Maths recently, he had never had a tutor before so was very reluctant. Chris was very approachable always and positive even if my son wasn’t up for it. Chris bought out the best in my son and without him he would never have had the confidence he had going into his exams. Finally achieving an amazing result which led to my son getting his first choice of University’s. We will be forever grateful and cannot wait for my young daughter to need his help in achieving her goals.

The A-Level Maths course is a two-year program typically taken during Years 12 and 13. After completing the first year, students earn an AS Level qualification, though this alone may not meet the requirements for university admissions. To secure an A-Level qualification, students must complete both years of study, as AS results do not carry over to the full A-Level.
There are several exam boards offering A-Level Maths in the UK, each with its own approach:
The choice of exam board is made by your school, so students will follow the curriculum of whichever board the school selects. Edexcel is the most common board in the UK, but each of the boards listed above follows a very similar core curriculum. Universities do not favour one exam board over another, so which one you take won’t affect your chances of admission. If you’re not sure which exam board you will be sitting, talk to your teacher.
Some schools even mix and match exam boards for different subjects, making the choice largely a logistical one rather than a strategic decision for students.
While all UK boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and OCR MEI) cover the same syllabus for A-Level Maths, they differ in their exam format. In contrast, the international versions—such as Cambridge CIE and Edexcel IAL—differ not just in structure but also in content.

Grade boundaries fluctuate from year to year and can vary across exam boards. The boundaries are determined based on the difficulty of the exam and how well students performed overall, so we’ll keep this in mind when reviewing past exams.
For students who want to push beyond A-Level Maths, A-Level Further Maths is an option. It can be the perfect choice for students looking to enhance their mathematical skills and add to university applications. However, please note this course can only be taken if you are also studying A-Level Maths or have already completed it.
If you’re looking for a tutor who will not only teach but also inspire, I would love to hear from you. Let’s work together to unlock your full potential in maths. Whether you’re aiming for exam excellence or simply need a little extra help to build your confidence, I’m here to help you succeed.
